Until recently you would never find me listening to the radio, ever. The loud and obnoxious commercials (mostly about car dealerships) between each song just can’t compete with a tranquil commercial free iPod that only plays music I like. However, a friend of mine recently pointed out KBOO Community Radio and urged me to give it a try. KBOO radio is a listener funded, volunteer operated radio station that has a loyal following that grows by the day. KBOO only has progressive, forward thinking and inclusive programming (you won’t find Rush Limbaugh stuff or any commercials on this station). The programming includes everything from intelligent political commentary and debate, hilarious guest hosts, and information on great local sustainable programs in Oregon. I listened to “Generation Pitchfork” from their website (www.kboo.fm) and learned more about the new generation of organic farmers in the area; and iFarm Oregon which aims to connect, encourage and train the next generation of farmers who grow the food that we eat. Check out their past programming archives and listen to what you missed straight from the web. Tune into KBOO radio anytime live from their website, or on the radio at 90.7 FM in Portland, it’s the best radio experience in Portland without question. Read More
This year the bustling Portland Auto Show at the Oregon Convention Center sported some exciting vehicles like the gorgeous new Audi A4. Hybrids and other high efficiency, low emissions vehicles took the spotlight this year for most auto manufacturers including the new Ford Escape model, and Americas favorite hybrid the Toyota Prius. My personal favorites can be found in the BMW section where I highly recommend sitting in the new 325, its nothing short of gorgeous with the sleek lines inside and out and luxurious quality permeating everything from the shifter to the seats. Tickets are $10 at the door, or $9 online for adults. Kids tickets are $5. Read More
The Portland Visitors Center has just launched the “Twisitor Center”. Now you can use the social networking giant Twitter to “tweet” your questions to the visitor center staff. Helpful Portland area residents can also help out with their own suggestions and replies to your question. To use the Twisitors center, just include the term #inpdx (yes, the hash mark is important) in your question on Twitter. For example, my tweet of “Where is the best place to grab lunch on Nob Hill #inpdx” resulted in some great suggestions from Pizza to Sushi, to Indian food. Since Twitter works with most any smartphone, you can even get the Portland Twisitor Center on the go using TwitterBerry on the BlackBerry or Twitterific on the iPhone. Read More
