Habibi Lebanese Cuisine

habibiHabibi Lebanese Cuisine is a nice little restaurant that I have been eyeing for a while, but just recently dropped in to try it out.  The atmosphere was quiet and nice, and I liked looking at dozens of varieties of beers and wines that lined the shelf near me.  The Artichoke Casserole I ordered was a little heavy, but very good.  The homemade hummus and homemade pita bread were only the appetizer, yet to me they were the highlight of the whole night and I probably ate more pita bread than anything else.  In the fun tradition of date night, I also got to share in the other dish which was an excellent lamb shwarma that was quickly devoured along with the helping of rice and veggies.  For anyone who enjoys Lebanese cuisine, I would add Habibi to your list and try it out this summer.

“The World” in Portland

theworldOn Tuesday June 16th many Portlanders downtown noticed that a massive 12 deck cruise ship “The World” has docked and come to visit for three days.  The ship is a giant cruise ship condo complex where you can purchase (or rent) a luxurious cabin and travel with the ship all over the world.  The ship comes to us fresh from San Francisco, and was visiting South America before that.  After the ship leaves Portland they will be headed up along the Canadian coast up to visit Alaska.  Check out KATU for more on the story, and Oregon Live has some video of the ship. Fleet Week

fleet-weekWednesday June 3rd to Sunday June 7th some of our very own men and women in uniform will be here in Portland arriving on ships from The US Navy, US Coast Guard, and a ship from the Canadian Maritime Forces.  Not only will the men get a much needed and well earned break from their normal duties, but they get to enjoy nearly a week in one of the greatest cities at one of our best times (the Rose Festival and perfect weather).  Lets show these guys a great time with everything Portland has to offer.  Free tours of the ships will be available on the waterfront on a first come first serve basis.  Show up early because the tours are popular.  Tours run from 9:00am to 11:30am each day as well as 12:30pm-4:30pm each day that the ships are here.  Bags and strollers are not allowed on the ships, and no wheelchair access is available unfortunately so plan ahead if these are concerns.
