I’m from the Midwest, Wisconsin to be specific, where independent hip hop has made a steady climb towards respectability due in large part to the efforts of rapper Slug and DJ/producer Ant, the Minneapolis, Minnesota duo who make up Atmosphere. Slug and Ant, who have been making music together since 1993, are one of the biggest success stories in the history of hip hop, achieving commercial success while continuing to produce independent music. The group now works under its own label, Rhymesayers Entertainment, and are on tour in support of their new album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold.
