Pok Pok

pokpokA frenzy has gripped our office.  Nearly everybody is buzzing about Pok Pok, the most amazing Thai/Asian fusion restaurant in Portland. I myself went in based on the hype (and I just happened to be on east Division anyway) and became an instant fan.  Pok Pok has a very interesting atmosphere, with several different eating areas both inside and out.  The service was prompt and pleasant, and our server seemed to know a great deal of what he was talking about and had some excellent suggestions.  We ended up trying a steak and cilantro salad, which was well prepared and nicely spicy.  We also tried a coconut thai noodle soup, which was filling and pleasant and warm.  The sticky rice that came with the meal was packaged in a unique bamboo container and a warm bag inside and was a great companion.  The best part of the night was the seared boar collar entree, it was absolutely incredible.  I honestly have not ever had better tasting meat in my life, the diced peppers and sprigs of cilantro mix with a strange savory flavor that is nothing like pork (despite it being boar meat) to make a stunning taste.  You must try the boar collar when you visit Pok Pok, it was enough flavor to make you stop and take notice everything else in the room just fades away.
