Camp Fire USA’s Xploregon
June 20, 2008
Xploregon is a series of summer service-learning road trips for high school youth that combines the best aspects of a road-trip adventure, providing teens with volunteer experience, leadership development and opportunities to connect with peers in communities across Oregon.
Xploregon road trips are open to all high school teenagers, boys and girls, entering into Sophomore, Junior or Senior year in September 2008. There are 20 seats on each trip for participants; that is 60 teens in total for this summer. The 14-day road trips will run 3 times this summer with a trip running in June, July and August:
* June Trip: Tuesday 6/17 - Monday 6/30
* July Trip: Thursday 7/10 - Wednesday 7/23
* August Trip: Thursday 8/7 - Wednesday 8/20
Stopping throughout Oregon, Xploregon participants will become Camp Fire USA Youth Ambassadors, teaming up with local community partners to complete hands on service projects and also spend time enjoying the best of Oregon´s great outdoors: rafting on the Deschutes River, rock-climbing at Smith Rock or completing the challenge course at Camp Fire USA´s Camp Namanu.
Teens will be empowered to take responsibility for planning the meals for the trip, managing the food/gas budget, and connecting with partner organizations in communities across Oregon to set up and complete service-projects with the help of local peers.
Keeping in line with Camp Fire USA´s value of inclusivity Xploregon is offered on a three tiered payment system ranging from $1,250 to $650 and also has limited funding to offer partial and full scholarships based on need for those who qualify. A $75 deposit is required at time of registration from all participants.
Registration opens on March 20th 2008. Registration forms can be downloaded or mailed to you by contacting: Andy Bell, (503) 224-7800 ext. 135
