Timber Jim Retires
April 16, 2008
It is a sad day for Portland Timber fans, and for Portland sports in general. The veritable local icon who has been energizing the Portland Timber Army for 29 years will be chainsawing his last log and leading his last victory song this Thursday at PGE Park. The man, of course, is Timber Jim. And if those in attendance are lucky, he will swing from the rafters, turn handsprings and climb his 80 foot pole with such fervor as to inspire a Timber victory to honor the swan song of a legend.
The Portland Timbers play the Puerto Rico Islanders in their home opener this Thursday, April 17th at 7pm. Timber Jim farewell T-shirts will be given to the first 1,000 fans, and there will be a special halftime ceremony.
Filmed by Bike, Portland
April 16, 2008
Portland is the bike capital of the America! We know that. But just to be sure (and so that everyone else knows it too) we set aside an entire weekend each year to honor and celebrate our favorite emission-free form of transportation through film. Since 2003, Filmed by Bike has been the premier bike-themed film festival offered on the West Coast. The festival features international and local films shorts and, with titles like “Unicycle Bastards Kick Zombie Ass” or “The Traffic Calming Sasquatch,” promises to be provocative and unconventional. Blazers Beat Lakers (again)
April 10, 2008
Brandon Roy scored 23 points and matched a career high with 12 assists as the Portland Trail Blazers held a 112-103 victory over the Lakers. This cost LA a chance to gain ground on New Orleans for the top seed in the Western Conference.
This is the second time in as many months the Blazers have rained on the Lakers parade, breaking their 10 game winning streak and now slowing down their playoff momentum.
Ping Pong, Brunch at Bumblekiss
April 10, 2008
My new favorite brunch spot in Portland is Bumblekiss (3517 NE 46th). This cozy house -and- garage operation is brimming with jaunty charm. And it has ping pong! That’s right, if there’s a wait for a table (which doesn’t seem to happen that often) you can work up your appetite playing a little ping pong in the garage. Once seated, you may notice the phrase “ridiculously tasty,” almost a threat, plastered on the front of the menu. Read more
Beavers Kick off With a Win!
April 10, 2008
PGE Park was packed last night to support the Portland Beavers as they opened their 2008 season. And the Beavers did not disappoint! Led by pitcher Josh Geer, who allowed only one hit over seven innings, the Beavers looked strong in their 8-4 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies. Nick Hundley and Chip Ambres each added solo home runs before Marshall McDougall sealed the deal with a three-run double in the 8th. Check out the Beavers as they aim to move to 2-0 tonight at PGE Park. Game time is 7:05. For more information and for tickets visit the Portland Beavers website.
