I’ve got some good news for all you cheese-heads out there (myself included). Steve’s Cheese is celebrating it’s 4th anniversary this Sunday! What does this mean for you?
It means beautiful, heavenly, cheese-filled fun, that’s what. Steve Jones, cheese monger extraordinaire, is pulling out all the stops this year. There will be a bounty of local & international cheese-makers and vendors in the shop tasting, selling, and talking about their cheeses. Of course, since this shop is conveniently located within Square Deal Wine, Dan will be out pouring some new wines for patrons as well. If that isn’t enough, they will also have live music courtesy of Shicky Gnarowitz.
Some of the cheesemakers and vendors on hand will be:
Black Sheep Creamery
River’s Edge Chevre
Fairview Farm Dairy
Tami Parr – signing her book Artisan Cheese of the Pacific Northwest
Petunia Panforte
Xocolatl de David
Alba Osteria
DPI – with Canadian cheeses
Provvista – with Swiss cheese and cured meats
Ritrovo – with accompaniments for cheese
Peterson – with French cheeses

If you’ve never been to Square Deal Wine before, you’re in for a real treat. These people really know their wine and have bottles and prices for any budget. The same goes for Steve’s Cheese. They also employ a knowledgeable and friendly staff. I’ve gone in before and simply stated what I planned to cook and both the wine and cheese counters gave me great advice.
They also have great wine classes, dinners, and tasting events. All of which I highly recommend.
It should also be noted that Dan’s wife, Elizabeth, is the owner/founder of Two Tarts Bakery. Proving they really have a finger on the pulse of Portland’s foodie palette.
The anniversary event is being held this Sunday, November 15th, from 12 – 4pm. Sampling is free!
Go, indulge. When was the last time you had an excuse to eat this much cheese?
Who knew fermented milk could be so good…
