Cirque du Cycling

May 30, 2008

Cirque du Cycling is a fun summer event for everyone. Presented by Laughing Planet Cafe, the event features a parade of customized bikes, a family ride, music, food, clowns and much more. Part street fair, part cycling and part circus, the first annual Cirque du Cycling happens on Saturday June 14th along Mississippi Ave. in North Portland from 4-9 pm. Proceeds will benefit Self Enhancement, Inc (SEI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to guiding under-served youth to realize their full potential. So bring yourself or the whole family, and be prepared to have some fun!

A three-mile family bike ride will kick the day off at 4 p.m. Then comes the parade. Bike clubs from all over Portland will be showing off their wildest and most creative bikes: double-high tall bikes, choppers, antique penny farthings, unicycles, sculptural bikes, etc. There will also be a criterium-style street where some of the fastest riders around will compete for $4,000 in prizes. Entertainment will be provided by The Sprockettes, a Portland-based bicycle dance troupe, as well as from the SEI Soul Choir and
Drum Corps.

All the events are free, except for the criterium race, which has an entry fee of $10 for those entering the competitive race. Go to www.CyclingCircus.com to reserve a spot in the free family ride, or to register to participate in the races or parade.
