Why: Proceeds support renovation of Portland Rescue Mission’s 24/7 public restrooms.

Portland, Ore. — April 1, 2008. Zetaman, the local Superhero who roams Portland streets at night to bring food and comfort to homeless people will make a special appearance at “Tunes for Toilets” on April 11, 2008. Someday Lounge, the Old Town arts hotspot, hosts the event to support the renovation of 24/7 restrooms at Portland Rescue Mission, the only 24-hour facilities currently available to the public.

Zetaman will auction himself off to help raise funds. Bands on hand to entertain include Tractor Operator, Ohioan and Native Kin, and the Morals. The concert of soft indie, electrified folk and experimental music begins at 9 p.m. Local writer-comedian Adrian Chen is host for the evening. Admission is only $5.

All funds raised benefit the Portland Rescue Mission as they upgrade their restrooms at 111 W. Burnside St. They are currently in violation of codes for public restrooms and require repairs.

“There is no other 24-hour toilet consistently available downtown, leaving a serious lack for a very basic need,” says concert organizer Cooper Bombadil, a volunteer. “Supporting the maintenance of these bathrooms will help thousands of people have a better life in our city – both the homeless, and the businesses and residents of the Old Town neighborhood.”

Portland Rescue Mission is dedicated to supporting people of all backgrounds, providing a full gamut of resources and services purely on the support of individual donors and volunteers.

Community partners in “Tunes for Toilets” include Someday Lounge, Coates Kokes and the public restroom advocacy group Public Hygiene Lets Us Stay Human (PHLUSH). More information about Zetaman is available at http://www.myspace.com/zetamanofportland
