Lazy Saturday mornings, rain or shine, seem to invite a cozy breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, hash browns, whatever your fancy, Portland serves it up for weekend breakfasts.
For favorites like buttermilk pancakes, traditional eggs benedict and biscuits and gravy, head over to Mother?s Bistro. Along with the traditional dishes, they have created some unique plates, such as the Crunchy French toast, dipped in batter, then in corn flakes. It?s something I would have made up with my mom on a Saturday morning when I was a kid. One of the many reasons I feel at home at Mother?s. It?s a good idea to make reservations, but just remember that they won?t seat you until your entire party is there, so make sure you are all on time. The service is spot on at Mother?s and their comfort food reigns supreme.
Real buttermilk biscuits, flaky and buttery are kind of hard to come by. Pine State Biscuits have a stand at the Portland Farmer?s Market, with a line that is always 6 or 7 people deep. And for good reason. They have the best biscuits around. Their store is opening this week on SE Belmont. Be sure to check them out ? this place is sure to be an instant success. Word is that they will still have a stand at the Portland Farmer?s Market, as well.
La Provence Bakery in Lake Oswego has a great eggs benedict, served on croissants and a French toast stuffed with berries and cream cheese that is to die for. And let?s not even talk about the delectable pastries, muffins and breads they have. If you are up for a carb overload, this is your place. But it all tastes so good, that somehow the carbs don?t seem to matter.
Portland is chock-full of great breakfast places. What?s your favorite?
