Grand Central Bowl
May 13, 2008
OK, Grand Central Bowl is, cosmetically speaking at least, a huge step up from the old establishment. When you first walk in you could swear you’re somewhere in the heart the Pearl District. The receptionists are well-coiffed and friendly. The bar area is good for a few happy hour cocktails or to watch a game on one of their insanely vivid flat panel TV’s (they must need a full-time person just to control the media in this place). The bowling lanes are really nice and huge projection TV’s playing music videos, sports and creepy McMenamin’s-style self advertising propaganda dominate the far wall. They have dumped some big time money into this place. Even the bowler waiting area comes complete with posh leather couches. All that said, just make sure to brace yourself for the bill. Three people bowling for an hour is 50 bucks, and you’ll be lucky to get in two full games. The drinks are ok but the food is less than spectacular. Grand Central clearly wants to appeal to everyone, and I think if they they can find a way to lower their bowling prices, they have the potential to stake a permanent claim in SE Portland.

Hi there. I love your web page! Fantastic. I will make sure to visit when I am in Oregon!
Great job Chris!!
Grand Central is the first eastside outpost of the SW Bridge and tTunnel bar scene. I live nearby, and the SUVs and sports cars pulling up and depositing stripe-shirt/high-heeled clubbers from the burbs makes for good people watching. So does the number of times i’ve been asked for directions back to I-5 from there.
