Lunch at The Sultan Cafe

April 30, 2008

There just isn’t enough written about lunch spots in Portland. As we all know, finding that delicate balance between quality, quantity, price and atmosphere isn’t easy. Luckily for you, I’m about to make that choice a little easier. Try The Sultan Cafe (NW 18th and Quimby). Manager Mike Makboul is there everyday putting a friendly face on their authentic Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. From homemade specials like Shawarma on Rice to fresh Mezzah Plates, creative Panini sandwiches, Kabobs and Jerusalem style Manakeesh (pita dough topped with heavy olive oil, thyme, oregano and sesame seeds), everything hits the mark here. The Sultan Cafe is a small operation with an ultra-loyal regular clientele. If you have a lunch-time sweet tooth, the Sultan also features great Turkish coffee and baklava. This is one of those classic lunch spots (note: they also serve dinner most nights) where you always leave happy, satisfied and feeling good about who you are supporting.
