Nuestra Cocina

August 26, 2008

nuestra cocina, portland, orNuestra Cocina (”Our Kitchen”) is one of the best new restaurants in SE Portland. Specializing in traditional dishes from the central Mexican regions of Oaxaca, Yucatan and Vera Cruz, Nuestra Cocina takes the concept of fresh, simple and bold flavors and does it to perfection: Masa cakes filled with chorizo, black beans and chile; baked Spanish cheese; roasted Poblano peppers stuffed with shredded pork, almonds and raisins; seasonal ceviche; chile marinaded pork chops with Guajillo mole; barbequed lamb shoulder braised in banana leaf, etc.

Great food aside, the experience at Nuestra Cocina is warm, inviting and fun. The bar whips up excellent cocktails (fresh muddled Margaritas and Mojitos), has an extensive tequila list, and offers several great local microbrews on tap. The service is friendly, informed and professional. This is the type of place you could bring your date, your parents or just a group of friends. It’s quite versatile in that sense, and, while not cheap, is quite affordable for fine dining. Nuestra Cocina is taking Mexican food in Portland to a new level and makes a great addition to the thriving SE Division Street community.

I agree! They have some sort of sauce made with tomatillos and raisins (and several other things) that nearly had us licking our plates. Nearly.

Got something to say?
