Parking Lot Rock at Centaur Guitar!

August 4, 2008

Centaur Guitar is the unstated garage/punk rock nucleus of Portland. They have the coolest pedals, funkiest guitars and friendliest staff. Kelly and Jason (of Portland’s own Muddy River Nightmare Band) opened this “everyman’s” guitar shop in 2005. The store was originally called Guitar Centaur (as a playful jab on the national corporate chain Guitar Center) but almost immediately had to rearrange the name after a cease and desist order arrived from an unnamed corporation’s team of lawyers (hmmm, I wonder who that could be).

Since their humble early days, Centaur has established itself as more than just a full-service guitar shop. They’ve created a community of working and aspiring musicians who appreciate doing business with someone who’s on their side.

If that isn’t enough goodness for you, Centaur Guitar also hosts free rock shows every Saturday in the summer. They are free, outdoors (in the parking lot), all-ages, and a hell of a lot of fun! The concert series began July 12th and continues through Labor Day weekend. The music always starts between 2pm and 3pm, and runs until about 7pm. So come on down and have some fun in the sun (hopefully in the sun) and enjoy some great live local music!
