Portland Rose Festival
The Portland Rose Festival takes place every year throughout the month of June in Portland, Oregon. This non-profit civic festival, held annually since 1907, was found with the purpose of promoting the greater Portland region. The main event of the festival each year is the Grand Floral Parade, the second largest parade of its kind in the United States. In this quintessential Portland tradition, more than 500,000 spectators line the parade route to watch the floats and get a glimpse of the Rose Festival Queen, selected each year from a court of Portland high school seniors.
Other Rose Festival events include Fleet Week (where ships from the United States Navy, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Royal Canadian Navy, dock along Waterfront Park), a CHAMP Car race (held at Portland International Raceway), dragonboat races, a fireworks display, a waterfront carnival, and the annual Starlight Parade.
