Portland Highland Games
June 13, 2008
How many dudes in utili-kilts does it take to screw in a light bulb? Not sure, but I know where you’ll be able to find a stronghold of men (and women) in kilts of all sorts this July: The 2008 Portland Highland Games. My only question is: where have I been the last five years? Foolishly, I’ve been missing competitions like the Caber Toss, the Braemer Stone, the Scottish Hammer and the Portland Stone, the last of which involves heaving a 96 pound stone harvested from the Sandy River many a fortnight ago.
The Portland Highland Games are a fun, family-friendly event with Scottish Highland music, dancing, piping and drumming competition, the aforementioned athletics, and cultural activities.
