Brooklyn
Brooklyn [Portland Zip Code 97202] is a mostly residential neighborhood in Southeast Portland, Oregon. It covers the area between Powell Blvd. and Milwaukee and sits between the Willamette River on its west to about SE 26th Ave. on its east. Although it does include some of the businesses along Powell Blvd. and Milwaukee Ave., it is primarily a residential neighborhood. The main attraction in Brooklyn is the Aladdin Theater (3017 SE Milwaukee Ave.), an historic 1920’s vaudeville theater which is now one of the premier music venues in the city, drawing acts from all over the world.
Brooklyn, after decades of being known as one of the least desirable neighborhoods in Portland (due to crime and poverty), is now one of the most popular Portland neighborhoods to buy to home. And because the neighborhood is still relatively affordable, it is especially desirable to young professionals and blue collar families. The ongoing construction of the Eastbank Esplanade will soon allow the neighborhood to regain its connection to the Willamette River.
