Sellwood (officially “Sellwood-Moreland“) [Portland Zip Code 97202] is a neighborhood in southeast Portland, Oregon. It sits atop a bluff and overlooks the Willamette River to its west. It borders Eastmoreland, Westmoreland and the city of Milwaukie. The history of Sellwood-Moreland is interesting, as it began as a rival city to Portland. Since 1893 it has been a part of the city of Portland. Sellwood has a reputation as a quaint, bookish community, providing many of the city’s antique shops as well as some of the area’s oldest homes. One of Sellwood’s main attractions is Oaks Park, an historic amusement park along the bank of the Willamette River.
The Sellwood neighborhood, with its older well-maintained Victorian houses, Craftsman bungalows and cute cottages is, and has been, highly attractive to potential home buyers. Quiet streets, an abundance of green space (including a golf course), good schools, close proximity to a prestigious college (the famously liberal Reed College) and a strong sense of community make Sellwood one of the most family-friendly of all the Portland zip codes. Association – Sellwood Moreland Improvement League (SMILE) Sellwood has an amusement park named Oaks Park, many restaurants, and many upscale antique shops along Antique Row on SE 13th Avenue. There is also a nice music venue, The Woods, that attracts a variety of local and national acts. Sellwood originated as an independent city, as a rival of nearby early Portland on the l320-acre Donation Land Claim of Reverend John Sellwood, who sold the claim in 1882 to the Sellwood Real Estate Company. The town of Sellwood was incorporated in 1887 and then incorporated into Portland by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on February 25, 1889. It was annexed in 1893.Real Estate
