Ralph Nader, Long May You Run
May 6, 2008
Ralph Nader, famed consumer advocate and perpetual presidential candidate is attempting to get on the Oregon November ballot. The man who many Democrats still blame for Al Gore’s loss to G. W. Bush in 2000, has tirelessly dedicated his late life to establishing a competitive third party in American politics. In 2000, when Nader and his young Green Party’s momentum peaked, Oregon was one of his strongholds. He attracted more than 10,000 people at $7 a ticket to an enormous rally at Memorial Coliseum. Ultimately, Nader got 5% of the vote that year in Oregon and 2.7% of the overall. In 2004, Nader failed to make the Oregon ballot, and has since filed a lawsuit against the Democratic National Committee for attempting to sabotage his campaign. The lawsuit is still pending.
Nader is slated to appear next Tuesday, May 13th at 7:30 pm at the Benson High School auditorium. He is asking for a $10 suggested donation, or $5 from students, but has promised that no one will be turned away. This stop is part of a six-city West Coast tour.
