Three different friends, at different times, recommended (or rather, insisted) that I visit Savor the soup cart on 10th Ave downtown… Then, one of my favorite blogs about Portland had a review of the various soup options among the famous Portland food carts (See the post on Neighborhood Notes).
So yesterday I braved the cold and rain to have a hot bowl of soup. The special of the day was a homemade chili that smelled very good, but I ordered the broccoli and cheese soup and a plain grilled cheese sandwich. The grilled cheese sandwich was hot and perfectly melted, and the bread they used was remarkable and fresh. The soup was thick and creamy and tasted amazing, and there was a lot more in there than just broccoli and cheese, I am sure that there was artichoke heart in there as well. The food is fresh and homemade, and quite healthy. If you do not order a sandwich with your soup, it comes with locally baked bread that will have you wishing for more. Though the price was a little more steep than I would like for a lunch cart, $17 for soup and sandwich for two people is not bad by any means. Check out Savor Soup House for a good hot lunch on a cold day.
