First of all, let me say that who ever chooses the music, is the coolest of the cool. I keep Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and John Legend in my car rentals and on my mp3 player, and I've been at Broders Cafe 3 times, and all three times, I was able to groove to all three artists while enjoying some great food. The music is something I wouldn't expect from a Swedish Cafe (considering I'm always the only person of color each time I have gone), so it was very welcome. the staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is great each time. When friends come to visit, I must add this cafe to the list of places to bring them to. I was there for my 3rd time on sunday, and the same Jill Scott cd that was playing was the same cd I was listening to on the way to the cafe! This last time I had baked eggs over a potato and beef hash, and walnut toast. AS delicious as the music.

[...] Let’s be honest, most people would call me a “europhile.” I take no offense to that; it is true that I am always on the prowl for all things European. Which is why last weekend I was happy to discover — thanks to my hip and in-the-know friend Kristina –Broder. Portland has a wide array of restaurants featuring cuisine from around the globe, but Broder has the one thing that no one else does: Swedish food. In my personal opinion, it really is hard to go wrong with Scandinavian fare — although my Swedish-born mother might disagree. Simple interior design and just enough lingonberry jam made me feel like I was in a Stockholm cafe… right in Southeast Portland. Read more about Broder on the Stumptowninfo blog.
