Deschutes Brewery
June 10, 2008
If you’re looking for a cool place with good beer, look no further than the new Deschutes Brewery and Pub located blocks from the Pearl District, in the brewery blocks. This massive establishment comes equipped with a spacious bar area perfect for a happy hour throw down or just hanging out with a date. The restaurant area is an open air space great for large parties or bringing the family in for a quick dinner. The staff is friendly and eager to help out. The burgers are great (they even have an elk burger on the menu) and you can’t go wrong with the Caribbean or Original-style hot wings. The price is typical for the area, but it’s totally worth it considering the fresh brew and great atmosphere. From what I hear, the majority of Deschutes beers will eventually be produced from this location. So if you have some time, stop in and check it out. You won’t be disappointed.

Mississippi Pizza Pub
June 6, 2008
Mississippi Pizza Pub has something for everyone: great pizza, good beer selection, live music 7 nights a week, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar in back, It’s a great place to hang out or just stop in for a slice to go. It’s kid friendly yet void of that often dreaded “family” feel. It’s also perfectly suited for singles or couples to eat and hang out. The music at Mississippi Pizza is eclectic and usually quite good. On one night you could get a country band, an afro-cuban jazz band and a laptop DJ. The pizza, available in slices or by the pie, is medium crust with a great sauce and generous toppings. Plus you are on Mississippi Street where there’s always plenty of action and everything is walkable. This is a classic Portland spot.

Sushiville
May 30, 2008
Our kids love sushi and so do we. If you ask our seven year old daughter where we should eat, there is only one answer: Sushiville. The great thing about this place is the convenience of having all the food scooting around on a conveyor and the super nice people who work here. You can of course find better sushi in Portland, but with the prices at Sushiville you can’t go wrong. Plus if you have kids, they can occupy themselves watching the fish go round and round. When it comes to the sushi, I recommend the Dragon Roll, the Tempura Shrimp roll topped with Unagi and the Spicy Tuna Handroll! This place is our ‘go to’ place for good sushi when you’re in a hurry.
