The Goodfoot Lounge

June 23, 2008

The Goodfoot Lounge served me my first drink in Portland. Over the years I’ve patronized it more than any other place in town. The Goodfoot is special because of its ability to attract different types of people. It’s built up one of the strongest bases of regulars by giving its barflies plenty of reasons to come back: super nice pool tables, plenty of seating for big or small groups, a specialized organic beer selection (way ahead of its time in this respect), really good (and, more importantly, appropriate) artwork, a kickass jukebox, live music and dance nights downstairs, and really good food. Actually I will go on the record now and say the Goodfoot has the best fries in Portland. Yes, even better than Dots! And they make a pretty mean salmon burger too (only $3.99 during happy hour).

There’s just something really comforting about the Goodfoot. A neighborhood bar first and foremost, it’s the type of place where the bartenders never leave, where you always run into someone you know, and where you’ve had more than a few crazy nights but always left smiling. The Goodfoot never seems to change, and I like that about it. As the old adage goes, if it ain’t broke why fix it?

They also have ‘Sonic Forum’ on Monday nights, which is one of the better run and attended Open Mics in town. Bands win studio time! $1 cover, and the crowd votes for who they like best (I think they total votes for a monthly prize, but don’t quote me).

Got something to say?
