Portland’s beloved used bike dealer The Recyclery will be closing the doors at its Southeast location on SE 7th and Madison (pictured above). Although I’ll miss their old warehouse space (it’s centrally located, familiar, and host to many a memorable late night bike party), their new location in Ladds Addition boasts a number of advantages. It’s right on Ladds Circle (where Videorama used to live), so it’s on a major bike corridor. And test riding bikes through Ladds will surely be a joy for their customers (provided they don’t get lost).
Folks, for custom work, The Recyclery is hands-down the place to go in Portland. If you bike regularly, you should definitely check out their stock of quality used bikes, parts, and frames. Who knows what goodies you’ll find? They specialize in solid commuter bikes and fancy-pants road bikes. For the beginning cyclist looking for a comfy cruiser, The Recyclery may not be your best bet (try the Bike Gallery). However, if you’re looking for an everyday workhorse, why buy new when you can save some money and resources with an awesome used bike?
The Recyclery offer pretty decent service. You can get a $40-60 tune-up, a complete overhaul for $150, or choose the repair you need a la carte. They also have some cool waterproof accessories for the all-weather cyclist; I’ve been eying the Ortleib waterproof backpacks for some time now.
Did you know the Recyclery trades and barters parts and frames? If you’re looking to swap (or just looking for a bargin), you might stop by their Swap Meet. Next one’s Sunday, 9-20-09 starting at 1 pm.
Word on the interweb is: there’s another Recyclery location in St. Johns in the works.
