The 5th annual Wordstock festival’s just a few weeks away! Though young and largely volunteer-organized, Wordstock stands as the Northwest’s most significant literary convention, bringing an almost overwhelming array of writers to our bookish population. Wordstock also features storytelling, kid-specific events, an unmissable book fair, and much more. So come out, get literary, and discover your new favorite author!
Check out the Wordstock blog here. Events are scheduled at numerous venues around town. Fine the full schedule here. Get event tickets here.
Here’s a recommendation (with disclaimer that I’m a sucker for food writing): WORD, a partnership of Slow Food Portland and the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center (IFCC) at Wordstock. WORD aims to compile Portlanders’ favorite recipes (as well as food-oriented poetry and short stories) and publish them as a unique ‘cook-zine,’ a self-published cookbook. Contributions will be organized and assembled at a IFCC workshop Saturday, October 3rd. The finished cook-zine debuts on Tuesday, October 6th ($8 at the door, includes a finished zine). If you read this in the next 24 hours, go submit your own favorite recipe at IFCC between 5 pm and 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 24 at IFCC.
Happy reading!
IFCC Location: 5340 North Interstate Avenue, 97217
